Former president of Maldives Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has welcomed Inter-Parliamentary Union's statement of dispatching delegate to Maldives on a fact finding mission.
Gayoom went on Twitter to express his gratitude and welcomed IPU for their statement released about the human rights of the opposition lawmakers and praised IPU's call of sending a delegate to Maldives for fact finding - approved through their Committee of Human Rights of MP.
IPU released their statement on Wednesday that had alleged Maldives of violating civil liberties and rights of lawmakers. The statement also included Cambodia, Venezuela and Turkey breaching the same rights as well.
