Former Home Minister escapes corruption allegations

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has declared Whale Submarine's corporate attempt in purchasing a lagoon had not been doused in corruption.

The former Home Minister Umar Naseer owns major shares of the underwater submarine company which had operated for nearly a decade.

The case filed at the commission alleged Fisheries Ministry had leased a lagoon for tourism business conduct breaching professional and ethical practice. However ACC declared, post investigation that Whale Submarine was not granted lease of any islands or lagoons, however a different corporation had approached with interest of purchasing a lagoon back in 2014.

The unnamed company on ACC's report, had presented their business interest which was directly received to President's Office and in turn handed over to Economic and Youth Council for evaluation.

However the company's business plan and concepts of using the lagoon had breached the initially agreed arrangement thus the deal was forfeited.

Former Home Minister, Naseer had spoken about the issue stating that post Transport Authority's demand of shifting Whale Submarine's station in between Male' and Vilimale' channel, his company had formally requested from the government to provide an alternative lagoon.

Furthermore he confirmed that though Whale Submarine has not been issued a lagoon, Fisheries Ministry had affirmed they will be granted a lagoon for relocation. Naseer stressed all the necessary paper works did not violate any legal conduct and thus was legitimate in its entire process.
