Hong Kong Airlines has announced their plans of commencing direct flights to Maldives in January 2018.
According to several Hong Kong newspapers corroborating the airlines' update, they are set for direct flights three days per week starting from January 16 the following year. Flights will travel on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Hong Kong Airlines' Assistant Director Weng Wang said the company is commencing its flights to Maldives due to rise in tourist figures and booming tourism in the country.
The airline will operate its A300 and A330 planes which accommodates a total of 260 passengers.
Meanwhile local Tourism Ministry's statistics have shown a total of 34,715 visits from Hong Kong region to Maldives so far this year. China marks the highest visitor nation with a total of 27,214 tourists arriving to Maldives in 2017 so far.
While the peak tourism season has kicked off in Maldives, two of the biggest names in European peninsula have commenced their flights; namely Air France and Italy's homegrown Alitalia.
