Top government lawmaker on Tuesday urged the government to annul the agreement with India's Noorul Islam International Private Limited (NII) to operate the regional hospital in Haa Dhaal Atoll Kulhudhuffushi island.
Kulhudhuffushi MP Mohamed Nasheed in his personal blog argued that the Indian firm had failed to provide most of the services and establish new facilities as per the agreement.
The much respected lawmaker also accused the firm of neglecting existing facilities at the hospital arguing that the regional hospital has slumped since its operations were handed over to NII.
The India firm however, had claimed earlier that it had faced severe operational challenges due to lack of funds and Aasandha entitlements.
Nasheed however, countered by saying that the hospital operator had claimed funds from the universal health insurance scheme for services that had not been provided by the hospital.
"In light of this, the best way forward would be to annul the agreement and the government to takeover operations of the hospital," Nasheed concluded.
