Maldives central bank on Wednesday announced plans to conduct a survey the status of payments in the country.
Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) in a statement said the first part of the survey targeting the greater capital region including suburbs Hulhumale and Villimale would take place from January 6-11.
The survey would aim to collect information on all aspects of national payment systems and curb the use of cash across the country, the statement said.
MMA said the survey would target payment systems in a multitude of major sectors including fisheries, infrastructure, trade, financial, tourism and telecommunications.
