Govt to give pay hike for civil servants 'soon'

Relevant authorities are already engaged in discussions to enforce the pay hike included in the 2018 budget, civil service commission (CSC) said Monday.

Ahead of this year’s presidential election, MVR234 million (USD15 million) had been allocated for the pay hike in the record 2018 budget.

In addition to CSC, president's office, finance ministry and the national pay commission are currently engaged in the discussions to bring about the increase the salaries of civil servants.

CSC spokesperson told Avas that the relevant authorities are looking to enforce the increment soon.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom had promised the pay hike late last year saying that civil servants should expect a 37 percent hike for the lowest salary bracket and a 25 percent rise for the rest.
