Maldivian military force had dispatched teams for surveillance and monitoring of former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's residence in an attempt to increase security and safety.
Visitors to former president's residence will have their identity and details noted by military personnel on-site to keep records of the individuals.
A close confidante of the former head of state confirmed to Avas Online that the local militia has tightened the security on Maafannu Endherimaage - the official residence of Gayoom and his wife. The anonymous ally to Gayoom had also included the security measures were increased over an intelligence report citing the former president's life may be in danger of an apparent conspiracy against him.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the military unit of Maldives, was unavailable for further comments regarding the situation.
Maumoon Abdul Gayoom's security detail has been increased following a drop in security officers guarding him in 2017. Gayoom's security officials were disbarred from accompanying him in foreign travel.
