Ex-Islamic minister hints at return to politics

Former Islamic minister and current Islamic university chancelor Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has hinted at a return to politics.

Shaheem who was this government's first Islamic minister had resigned announcing his intentions to a more focused role as an educator. He had said that there were far too few Islamic scholars actively working in the education and human rights sectors before his appointment as the chancellor of the recently founded Islamic university.

Shaheem who had served in top posts in the religously conservative Adhaalath Party (AP) before resigning from the party, hinted an imminent return to politics on his personal Facebook page.

He however, was not immediately available for comment over the post.

Shaheeem has recently been seen attending several ruling party rallies, with increasing rumours that he maybe a likely candidate to be incumbent president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's running mate for the upcoming presidential elections later this year.
