MRDC to develop runway and apron of Kulhudhuffushi airstrip

State concludes to assign Maldives Road Development Corporation (MRDC) to develop and complete the runway and apron of Kulhudhuffushi airstrip - which is currently under development.

Earlier government had announced seeking an interested party to develop and construct the runway and apron of the airport. Public Service Media (PSM) later reported that state had decided to award MRDC with the project and will proceed with signing on an official agreement in the next couple of days.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) finished the first phase of the project within their due period of 180 days. The contracting and transport company had utilized their massive hopper suction dredger to reclaim a total of 15 hector land from both the vast mangrove and shoreline next to it.

MTCC completed the assignment for a project cost of MVR 53.4 million, and now government is seeking a developer for the next phase - which they have seemingly found in MRDC.
