Discussions have taken place between both Maldives and Philippines for the latter's national airline to commence flights to Velana International Airport (VIA).
According to Philippines' "Business Mirror" the aviation administrations of both countries are set to hold official discussion for the flight operation, which has been confirmed by the Maldivian Civil Aviation as well.
Executive Director of Civil Aeronautics Board of Philippines has confirmed the official talks will commence sometime around second quarter of 2018, in their capital Manila.
Maldives does not have direct flight operations with Philippines. Current flights from Maldives to Philippines reach via Malaysia, Singapore or Japan transits.
The country attracts a significant portion of travelers to Maldives while many of its citizens are employed in various hospitality outlets and businesses in the island nation.
