Famous local blogger Yameen Rasheed who was found dead at the stairwell of his apartment building last year has been posthumously awarded certificate of appreciate by Maldives Stock Exchange (MSE).
Yameen Rasheed, a vocal social media activist was employed at MSE where he was a software developer, was awarded the certificate in recognition of his service and dedication to the stock market corporation on its 10th year anniversary, celebrated Tuesday.
At the time of his demise Rasheed was involved in creating an 'infinity portal' for MSE's Securities Depository. The portal would allow investors to register up online and review their selected IPOs in real-time.
Noted as one of the most well known faces in local activism, Rasheed on his politically satirical blog 'The Daily Panic' discussed several critical and sensitive issues and was a strong advocate against religious extremism.
He had also headlined several social gatherings and a campaign urging answers regarding the missing Minivan News journalist Ahmed Rilwan - who was a close confidante and friend of Rasheed.
Rasheed was discovered at early hours of April 23, 2017 at the stairwell of his apartment building with multiple stab wounds on his body.
Immediately after he was discovered the blogger was transported to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). He was pronounced dead shortly after.
The gruesome nature of his murder sparked outrage and fear within Maldivian community and many had poured their sorrow on Twitter - where the blogger was consistently active.
