ACC claims 'no corruption' in Maamigili airport case

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) of Maldives has concluded no foul play in the Alif Dhaalu atoll Maamigili airport operational period's increase by 99 years.

In the publicized report of the commission handled cases in December, which had included the airport case, it said there were no acts of corruption in the request to increase the development and operational period of Maamigili airport by 99 years.

The agreement was signed between Villa Group - owned by Jumhoory Party leader Qasim Ibrahim - and the state on August 22, 2001.

Villa Group received go ahead to operate Maamigili airport for a period of 99 years during the presidency of Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan - who took office right after the abrupt resignation of then president Mohamed Nasheed.

The approval came through with the go-ahead of economic committee of parliament.
