Pres affirms top priority for women's rights

Incumbent president of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom on Thursday has affirmed that one of the government's top priority is continued efforts for women's rights and empowerment.

In a public address to commemorate the international women's day president had stressed the current administration had stepped in to empower women through various initiatives - most importantly by bringing efficient changes to the constitution and regulations to ensure equal rights to women.

President Yameen had also emphasized the efforts of today's government towards women empowerment has been greatly acknowledged by international communities as well.

In his address, president had furthermore stated the government encourages active involvement of women in policy level decision making as well as step up their political careers.

President Yameen had also noted the appointment of female members to the boards of various government owned corporations are a clear indication of this and such decisions were made in order to empower women - and to increase their role in the society. He also noted the feedback and result of providing opportunities for women in various training and workshop programs.

He also expressed joy in witnessing women breaking the barrier of gender-stereotyped jobs and excelling in such fields.
