Public Service Media (PSM) has taken over the management of the largest and oldest cinema/theater in Maldives.
The corporation made the confirmation on Sunday night through Twitter stating the Olympus theater will be run and managed by the government owned media.
PSM was assigned to manage the theater under incumbent president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's initiative to push youth agenda.
State owned television and broadcasting company had further stated the new management would assure local artists and performers to receive international standard training.
Previously the theater was run by National Center for the Arts (NCA) which is under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
The theater was closed down for renovation years back and was re-opened under Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan's administration in 2013.
Although the oldest cinema in Maldives had been renovated several local film-makers and producers had raised concerns and complained regarding the poor sound system at the theater venue. The poor sound management had been a constant complaint by many of the moviegoers as well.
Meanwhile several local movie producers and film industry experts speculate financial losses for movie-makers if PSM run the theater commercially. However the media entity had not revealed its plan for the theater as of now.
