Anti Corruption Commission tackles rising cases

Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) of Maldives has reported an estimation of 300 cases lodged at the entity during the first three months of 2018.

According to ACC they have received a total of 280 cases by the end of March 2018 which is a 2.2% increase compared to the first quarter of 2017.

The cases include 162 cases lodged at the commission and another 118 ACC initiated cases making the total 280 for the first quarter whereas in 2017 the commission dealt with 274 cases during the first quarter.

After researching all the cases under the commission's registry for 2018 it had decided to pursue in-depth investigation of 248 cases during the first quarter which is the same number of cases ACC investigated during the first three months of 2017.

While ACC has accepted 280 cases under its probing the commission had also diverted 16 cases to its respective institutes and government bodies according to their mandate. Another 36 which apart from falling out of the commission's mandate had insufficient data subsequent to them and was thus shelved.
