Heavy rainfall to southern Seenu (Addu) and Gaaf Dhaal atolls have left many of their islands flooded.
The southwest monsoon; otherwise known as the 'rainy season' has been extensive on the southern atolls compared to the other parts of the island nation. Several islands of Addu City and even Gaaf Dhaal atoll Thinadhoo have experienced flooding with many of their residences coming under the aftermath of heavy rainfall.
Both police and army (Maldives National Defense Force; MNDF) have reported to have commenced drills to pump water out from residences in the mentioned parts of Maldives. Authorities add that although the rainfall resulted in many residences getting flooded no casualties have been reported so far.
Maldives Meteorological Center (MET Office) claims the rainfall is expected to pick up its intensity and continue for the next 24 hours as well in southern atolls. Wind is estimated to pace up the speed between 15 to 23 miles per hour.
