Former attorney general and famous lawyer Husnu Al Suood confirmed his support Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) parliamentary group leader as best alternative to ex-president Mohamed Nasheed as presidential candidate.
The famous legal expert through Twitter made his sentiment felt by stressing he was vying for parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Iboo) to run for the top-office should former president Mohamed Nasheed get ultimately shut out from running for presidency.
Though the island nation's electoral watchdog had claimed Nasheed was ineligible due to his ongoing prison sentence stretching a 13-year serve. Elections Commission confirmed Nasheed cannot run for presidency as per Maldives Constitution.
Campaigning busily as the 'Island President' Nasheed is still adamant about acquiring the opportunity to run for presidency in the last minute; through possible international intervention as he expects. However many prominent opposition aligned members have stressed their support for the parliamentary group leader as 'best alternative' should Nasheed completely lose window to contend.
Among prominent political figures include south-Galolhu MP Ahmed Mahloof who coincided with Suood's sentiments as well.
The lawmaker suggested nominating an MDP candidate for president and a Jumhooree Party candidate as the running-mate was the best approach to contend in the election adding should Nasheed lose opportunity to run for top-office he should be replaced by Solih; who many including Mahloof as well, agree as the best fitting for the role.
Although many have entertained the idea of an alternative to Nasheed, due to the visible circumstances that may eventually shut out the former president to run for another term he had won the opposition party's internal election uncontested with a vote tally of 43,936.
