Maldives authorities has scheduled a full scale emergency response exercise at the country's main airport on Wednesday.
Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) which operates Velana International Airport (VIA) said the full scale exercise would determine preparedness of the airport for an emergency as per local and international civil aviation regulations.
MACL said the airport would suspend operations for the duration of the exercise which is set to be conducted from 4pm to 7pm on Wednesday.
The airport operator said the exercise would test the plans currently in place for passenger and aircraft safety in case of an emergency. The plans would then be strengthened if needed, MACL added.
MACL has apologized for any inconveniences caused with regard to the exercise conducted every three years.
