Maldives is again looking to void ballots with unnecessary scribbles or doodles through an amendment to the elections law.
The government controlled parliament had rejected a similar amendment in November 2016 but now a fresh amendment has been submitted by a ruling party lawmaker.
According to the amendment, any unnecessary scribbles or doodles other than the required check-mark on a ballot would be deemed as void.
In addition the proposed amendment would also look to include spoiled votes in the number of voters.
Elections Commission had said allowing voters to scribble or doodle the ballot paper paves for fraud and vote buying.
The amendment comes as the archipelago is gearing up to hold the presidential elections which has been slated September 23.
