Maldives parliament has approved president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom nominated name of Mohamed Hussain Shareef as the new non-resident Ambassador to Russian Federation.
Mohamed Hussain Shareef, who fills the responsibility of Maldives ambassador to Sri Lanka received a 36 vote approval from lawmakers while none had voted against him.
National Security Council on Wednesday presented its report regarding Mohamed Hussain Shareef's background and credentials which made him a viable option as the non-resident ambassador to Russia.
Upon president Abdulla Yameen's request Shareef's name was forwarded from parliament to the council for assessment on the first sitting of parliament's second term back on Monday.
During deliberation window the only lawmaker to deliberate; Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla spoke in favor of Shareef stating he was already fulfilling the responsibility as the Maldives ambassador to Sri Lanka diligently.
Furthermore in Wednesday's sitting, president Abdulla Yameen had forwarded the name of High Court chief judge Abdulla Didi, vetting him as the new Chief Justice upon advisory from Judicial Services Commission (JSC).
The other vacant Supreme Court judge post is expected to be filled by High Court judge Abdul Ghanee Mohamed who will be replacing the now imprisoned top-court judge Ali Hameed. President Yameen had presented the names of both Abdul Ghanee Mohamed and Abdulla Didi for parliament approval to fill the vacant apex court positions.
Parliament is expected to have another session later on Wednesday at 21:00hrs.
