Maldives Police signs with EC to collaborate in presidential election

Maldives Police Service on Thursday has signed with Elections Commission (EC) to collaborate resources and expertise during the 2018 presidential election.

The police authority has signed up to monitor logistic and security protocols associated during polling.

The agreement was signed between EC president Ahmed Shareef Adam and police acting Commissioner Abdulla Nawaz.

Shareef noted this year's election will bring with it several unprecedented challenges unlike previous election years. He added that the electoral watchdog had commissioned Maldives Police with security and logistics protocols in order to guarantee a free and fair election.

Police acting commissioner had also assured the authority will be handling the security details related to the election days prior to the event and they will start preparatory work soon.

Acting Commissioner Nawaz in his speech following the signing ceremony had hoped the 2018 presidential election will proceed without any unfavorable incidents.

Police had not disclosed details regarding their security protocols for the upcoming election, however confirmed it will be revealed at a later date.
