President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has departed on a trip to visit the islands of Shaviyani atoll - a northern atoll in the archipelago.
The Maldives head of state is expected to visit Bilehfahi, Kan'ditheemu, Funadhoo and Milandhoo of the atoll. President Yameen will visit the closing ceremony of shoreline protection project in Bilehfahi initiated by the government.
President Yameen is expected to also to open the newly developed harbor at Kan'ditheemu, visit the reclaimed land area for airport development at Funadhoo and inaugurating the sewerage system at Milandhoo.
The leader of the island nation is expected to travel back to the capital on Tuesday.
