MP Mahloof entrusts leaders to resolve political crisis of Maldives

Prominent lawmaker aligned with opposition Ahmed Mahloof has said he entrusts the leaders of opposition to join hands together to 'take Maldives to a safe harbor.'

The south-Galolhu MP also in a tweet said he finds the predicament of going back to jail unsettling but said he believes the political crisis can be resolved through joint efforts by the opposition.

The lawmaker is pressed by state for misleading a government authority; by detailing a false account of events. He is expected to arrive at Criminal Court on Wednesday at 11:00hrs for the sentencing hearing of his trial.

Mahloof has reiterated of strongly believing he will receive a jail sentence for the said offense.

He also assured of unchanged determination in his political quest to bring peace to the island nation while indirectly accused the current state of unjustly jailing political members for ulterior motives. Mahloof had also accused the state of being responsible for prisoner torture.

The prominent lawmaker had also thanked former presidents Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Mohamed Nasheed and Adhaalath Party leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla as well as Jumhooree Party founder Gasim Ibrahim along with opposition members for their continued support for him.

In another tweet Mahloof had also congratulated Maldivian Democratic Party's (MDP) parliamentary group leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih for getting nominated as the multi-party backed presidential candidate.

Earlier the lawmaker had spent more than 10 months in jail for getting convicted in a few previous cases.

In addition to this Mahloof is also carrying a terrorism conviction for which he attends trial currently.
