MDP promises to add 'Home-Stay' to local tourism industry

Major opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has included new pledges on their campaign manifesto to develop the guesthouse or local tourism venture in the island nation.

The party is also credited on introducing guesthouse venture to the island nation during the tenure of its founder Mohamed Nasheed as Maldives president.

The prime political opposition has proposed new entries to the guesthouse policy in order to develop the field to include new ventures associated with hospitality.

These include the push on locals to introduce island hotel, boutique hotel and home-stay concepts into the hospitality field.

Though their campaign manifesto lacks details on an MDP administration's approach to introduce the said components into local tourism, the party has promised on disclosing details at a later date.

Home-Stay is a new concept that has picked up on popularity in several parts of the globe. A concept that allows even the common citizen to make an income through hospitality by providing stay or abode for foreign travelers at their own residences.

The party's new policy also enforces on holding profit localized by introducing a segment that dictates island councils would retain a percentage of profit from the sales of its corresponding islands' reefs, lagoon, land and sea.
