Maldives records 16 percent hike in USD revenue

Maldives has recorded a 16 percent increase in USD revenue so far this year, statistics released by the inland revenue has shown.

According to the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), tax collection in USD by the end of June amounted to 334 million. This figure is nearly a 16 percent increase from the USD287 million collected during the corresponding period last year.

USD revenue is largely collected from tourism related taxes and fees.

Tourism statistics show that the tropical island destination had welcomed over 600,000 tourists by the end of May which is a 10.6 percent increase from the same period last year.
