Ruling Progressive Party of Maldives' (PPM) parliamentary group leader and Vilimale' MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has spoken about extending the presidential term of Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
While speaking at a ceremony at Gaaf Dhaal atoll the prominent lawmaker stated that a presidential term is cited as two terms of five years according to Maldives Constitution. However, Nihan noted, the local Constitution does not mandate a governance period of a prime minister.
The parliamentary group leader argued that a small amendment to the Constitution could mean incumbent head of state Abdulla Yameen can be designated as president or prime minister for the undisclosed period of time.
The lawmaker was all praise towards ruling party's running mate Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, whom Nihan described as a 'savior of Islamic faith.'
MP Ahmed Nihan had noted the significant increase of infrastructural development in Gaaf Dhaal atoll during president Abdulla Yameen's administration; which overshadows every previous administration's initiatives towards the atoll.
The politician further argued the people of Gaaf Dhaal atoll reserve no valid excuse in denying to cast their vote for president Abdulla Yameen.
