Criminal Court on Thursday ordered the release of jailed Villa Group managing director Ibrahim Siyad Gasim.
The son of business tycoon and Jumhooree Party founder Gasim Ibrahim was jailed following the top court order on February 1. Court ordered to keep Siyad Gasim under remand until the end of his trial.
State is prosecuting the Villa Group managing director on charges of bribing. However, on Thursday the sitting judge of the trial noted Prosecutor General's Office has failed to present the alleged document reflecting the defendant's signature issuing graft money.
According to Criminal Court judge the state has failed to present the said document in Thursday's trial as well. The defendant's lawyers argued for his release due to plaintiff's failure in presenting the evidence.
Court released Siyad Gasim after presenting a few conditions which included a travel ban out of capital city Male'. Additionally he must inform of any changes to his address accordingly to Criminal Court as well.
