Home Ministry reverts news editor criterion

Home Ministry has reverted the news media editor criterion back to its original requirements.

The ministry brought about a major amendment to local news and media regulations back in February 2018. According to the amendment editors of any local news media must hold a degree in journalism or relevant field as well as have a five year work experience.

Earlier, the regulation cited editors must possess at least one out of either of the above mentioned requirements.

Home Ministry had even pushed for the amendment as far as by going to hold special degree programs focused on news and media editors. The ministry had conditioned editors who did not possess a relevant degree to attain it in 18 months since the amendment was implemented.

However, Home Ministry on Sunday had gazetted its reversal of the old regulation; citing editors no longer need to possess both traits but one out of the two is acceptable.

Though the amendment was reverted, Home Ministry had increased work experience term from five years to seven years in the criteria.
