Court orders travel ban on former Home Minister

Civil Court on Monday issued a travel ban on former Home Minister Umar Naseer.

The court issued a travel ban on Naseer due to a lodged case regarding an undischarged decreed debt owed by a company he holds shares of.

The former Home Minister was slammed a travel ban under the accruals and non-mortgage debt regulation which cites a company's director may be banned from traveling out of country until the outstanding debt has been settled.

Naseer had since denied the news of travel ban on him, adding he does not have shares in any local ventures.

While the former Home Minister had announced contesting in the upcoming presidential election, individuals with undischarged decreed debt cannot run for president's office according to Maldives electoral watchdog.
