Maldives president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appointed the newly approved member to Elections Commission on Wednesday.
President Yameen nominated Ali Nashaath for the electoral watchdog and his name was accordingly presented to Maldives parliament for approval on Tuesday.
In Tuesday's sitting Nashaath was approved onboard Elections Commission with 32 votes in favor; all from government aligned lawmakers.
Opposition had continued their streak of boycotting parliament sittings as a way to enforce parliament Speaker Abdulla Maseeh's loss of credibility.
Nashaath has been elected as the new EC member following the resignation of previous member Mohamed Shakeel.
