Infuriated Maamendhoo public halts inconsistent electricity service

The infuriated public of Laamu atoll Maamendhoo has interrupted provision of electricity to the island over its inconsistencies.

Maamendhoo council member Yoosuf Irfan noted that faulty generator issues resulted in technical setbacks while providing electricity to the residences. Power outages have been frequent for the past two days leaving just an hour of electricity provided to the island; after dividing the residences to two utility segments.

The public on Friday evening intervened the powerhouse operations to completely shut down electricity provision to the island; mainly due to heavy damages on electrical appliances over power outages.

Post discussion with Fenaka Corporation seniors, the electricity provision to both districts have been increased to two hours each, provided separately.

"We have two power generators in Maamendhoo. The 400 Watt output generator is facing issues resulting in power shortages. But Fenaka is attempting to procure a generator to replace the faulty one tonight, and we expect to bring it by sometime tonight [Saturday]," Irfan noted.

Fenaka Corporation assures a 250 Watt generator will be procured to the island on Saturday evening, adding the power outage issue will be completely resolved by Sunday.
