Adaalath Party condemns India's 'invading Maldives' remarks

Opposition aligned Adaalath Party (AP) has condemned India BJP lawmaker Subramanian Swamy's remarks of 'invading Maldives' if the presidential election results are colluded.

The BJP lawmaker tweeted the statement informing about his meeting with former president Mohamed Nasheed at Sri Lanka on Wednesday.

Adaalath Party's statement on Saturday condemned the Indian lawmaker's remarks and claimed that Maldives is a sovereign state and the party does not believe any external entity has the right on invading a free state.

The religiously conservative party further noted that the best approach in maintaining peace or stability across Indian Ocean can be achieved through a strong relationship built between the South-Asian giant and Maldives.

AP however, noted that due to president Yameen's administration leaning towards Beijing, while undermining the diplomatic ties with New Delhi has created instability in the region. AP criticized incumbent president's policies of shifting bilateral unison towards China while seemingly severing ties with India.

The statement also noted that Maldives identifies India as a strong political ally that can address the political tribulations of the island nation properly at international platforms. AP also notes that India can become a vital ally in assisting Maldives in realizing true democratic values.
