PPM Deputy claims 'primary-standards' ineligible as presidents

Progressive Party of Maldives' (PPM) deputy leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla on Tuesday claimed that individuals with an academic level of primary standard are ineligible to govern a country as its president.

The deputy leader of ruling party and prominent lawmaker's jab is believably an indirect shade thrown at opposition presidential candidate Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, whose academic qualifications the ruling party have questioned multiple times.

MP Abdulla made the statement while addressing the people of Raa atoll Alifushi on Monday.

The prominent lawmaker urged the Maldivian public to voice against opposition presidential candidate and his running-mate Faisal Naseem, and call them out as ineligible to run for top-office.

Abdul Raheem had criticized opposition candidates for their outlook on current education sector in Maldives, stating that they were alleging the current government have not done enough to improve the sector.

The deputy leader of ruling party claimed that under president Abdulla Yameen's administration, the Maldivian education system has greatly improved.

Meanwhile ruling party supporters and its members on multiple occasions have questioned the academic credibility of Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, with some accusing him being a primary standard graduate.
