Maldivians residing in Lanka cautioned over protests at Colombo

Maldives Embassy at Sri Lanka has cautioned the island nation locals residing in Colombo over planned protests in the city.

The Maldives Embassy noted the protests at Colombo may lead to further political backlash in Sri Lanka, with chance for aggressiveness.

Former Sri Lanka's leader Rajapaksa's son Namal Rajapaksa will be spearheading a series of protests in Colombo; while the country's opposition parties are gearing up for the movement.

The protest movement is aiming to pressure incumbent Colombo government to pace up the province council elections.

Maldives Embassy at Lanka advised its locals to avoid crowds and gatherings across Colombo, while the protestant movement is expected to start on Wednesday stretching until Friday.

Approximately 3,000 Maldivians reside in Colombo for various needs.
