Maldives has emerged as the champions of South Asia region after beating neighboring India with a score of 2 - 1 in the finals of SAFF Suzuki Cup 2018.
The victory by Maldives national football team on Saturday evening marks the first championship title after ten years; since the last time was back in 2008.
The final game's first goal was scored by Ibrahim Mahdhee Hussain on the 19th minute of the match; from an assist by the team's Naaiz Hassan.
Second goal for Maldives was scored by Ali Faasir; who goes by the pitch name 'Sentey' from a pass by Hamza Mohamed.
Excluding 2018, Maldives made it to the finals of the tournament twice. Once back in 2003, and the other in 2009 where they lost to India.
