The recently opened Sinamale' Bridge will be closing down for public transportation on Tuesday afternoon for the official opening of new runway at Velana International Airport (VIA).
Maldives Police on Tuesday tweeted Sinamale' Bridge will be closed for public transportation between 15:15hrs and 16:15hrs and from 17:30hrs until 18:30hrs.
State government has planned for several activities as part of the grand opening of the new runway at the international airport. These include a Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) led para-jumping exercise and an air-show by Maldivian Airlines.
Apart from this the A380 Air-Bus from Qatar Airways will be the very first flight to land in the new runway carrying the recently crowned SAFF Suzuki Cup champions; the Maldives national football team.
Maldives president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom is expected to welcome the national football team around 16:30hrs on Tuesday. The team will be coming in land to Male' City across the Sinamale' Bridge and will be greeted by celebratory activities from the public.
