The public is restricted from using the Sinamale' Bridge connecting Male' and reclaimed suburbs Hulhumale' between 0100hrs and 0900hrs, Maldives Police Service announced on Thursday.
The police media official said movement on the bridge will be restricted for a period of two weeks effective from Friday. The only exceptions allowed are for essential workers and security personnel, said the police.
The measure was taken as an added precaution against COVID-19, with health authorities warning of a possible surge in the number of positive cases over the next two weeks. The lockdown imposed on Male' city has also been extended until the end of the month.
The Maldives have recorded 982 infections and four fatalities thus far.
