A Bangladesh expatriate worker succumbed to injuries after falling into a pit excavated to establish a sewage system in Haa Alif Atoll Utheemu island on Sunday.
Police spokesperson said the expat was rushed to the island health centre after he fell into the open pit around 10.30am on Monday.
The expat died while being treated for the injuries, police said.
Police said the expat who was standing on the edge of the pit fell in after the soil beneath his feet gave way.
