PPM protesters warn RaajjeTV reporters

An angry group of ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) supporters who joined outgoing president Abdulla Yameen on Monday evening protest had warned and intimated RaajjeTV journalists on site.

Protesters had cursed and yelled profanities at the RaajjeTV reporter present on-site to cover the event.

Some of the individuals of the mob yelled "you all are thieves!" and "are we still thieves?" among several other abusive statements while the reporter was on-camera.

The reporter was unable to continue his coverage due to the angry mob. However, a few minutes later the angry supporters were pushed aside by two police officers and some of the more considerate members in the mob.

The protest was initiated by outgoing president Abdulla Yameen who following the presidential polls results had accused Maldives electoral watchdog of rigging the elections.

The ruling party supporters called for the immediate resignation of Elections Commission (EC) members including its president Ahmed Shareef.

President Abdulla Yameen initiated protest event on Monday evening violated the regulations regarding rallying and protesting; since the event took place on a 'Green-Zone.'

The outgoing president was requested by local police officers to leave the area amid his speech.
