Police have confirmed that they are looking into an assault that took place at Maafushi Prison earlier Sunday evening.
Police spokesperson confirmed to AVAS that reports of an attack between two intimates involving sharp objects were received by the police around 6pm on Sunday but refused to divulge any more details while the Correctional Service was not immediately available for comment.
Several physical altercations have taken place at the Maafushi Prison in the past. Suspicious death of inmates became a matter of concern during 2018.
New Home minister Imran Abdulla recently established a commission to audit the prisons, which has identified the deaths of inmates as a major concern.
