Govt commences Kulhudhuffushi habor project

The government has commenced the harbor project of Haa Dhaal Kulhudhuffushi.

The project costing MVR 126 million was contracted to Maldives Transport Contracting Company, MTCC. Kulhudhuffushi island council informed that the practical work of the project has now begun, and that the harbor area has been closed off to the public.

The proposed harbor site is the only natural beach that remains at the island. The beach area which was previously used by the youth of the island for recreation, will house a ferry terminal, ticketing station, jetty, loading dock as well as retail shops and offices upon project completion. A prayer area as well as cafe's have been agreed to be established at the harbor.

The youth of the island has previously raised concern that the construction of the harbor would overshadow the water sports activities at the island, which has been growing in popularity. An alternative water front zone will be built to cater to the youth, where water sports activities can be conducted.

The Kulhudhuffushi Airport project is also being handled by MTCC. The construction of the airport terminal is currently underway.
