1.4 mln tourists visit Maldives during 2018

Tourism Minister, Ali Waheeed stated on Thursday that 1.4 million tourists visited the Maldives during 2018.

Speaking at a press conference, the Minister said the tourism industry witnessed a development of 6.8% in the last year. The number of tourist beds in Maldives reached 44,860 by the end of 2018, revealed the Minister.

Ali Waheed noted that the efforts of all those working in the tourism sector contributed to the success of the industry, and expressed his appreciation.

The new government led by Ali Waheed has already set sights on breaking the tourist arrival record this year setting MVR100 million tourism promotion budget. The minister stressed on the importance of expanding exposure of the country's tourism throughout the globe in order to achieve this.
