Guesthouses in Male' area may be utilized as transit hotels: govt

The Tourism Ministry has made the decision to allow guest houses in Male', Hulhumale' and Villimale' to be used as transit hotels.

The government has announced that resorts will be allowed to reopen from July 15 when the country reopens its borders on the same date. However, local guesthouses and hotels can begin operation on August 1.

A statement issued by the ministry said as per Section 2d of the Guideline for Restarting Tourism in Maldives, guesthouses and hotels operated in inhabited islands may be utilized for transit movements when the country reopens its borders.

In this regard, guesthouses and hotels in Male', Hulhumale' and Villimale' will be issued permits to accommodate transit travelers on the condition that it adhered to the safety standards outlined by the Health Protection Agency (HPA) and the tourism guideline, said the ministry.
