An agreement has been signed between L. Isdhoo Island Council and the Tourism Ministry to provide technical assistance in leasing land for tourism in Isdhoo.
The agreement was signed at the request of the Issue Council. The purpose of the agreement is to provide technical assistance to the Isdhoo Council to prepare bid announcements, tender books, and award letters for the lease of land for tourism purposes.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Isdhoo Council by the council's President Ibrahim Khaleel, and by Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom on behalf of the Tourism Ministry.
Sharing more information about the agreement with AVAS, Isdhoo Council President said the works under the agreement will start in a month. A large area of land has already been allocated in Isdhoo for leasing, he said.
"We cannot say we have tourism in Isdhoo. But we can say tourism can be developed [in Isdhoo]. The island has a surfing point and several historical sites. Cultural tourism can be targeted and developed," Khaleel said.
A private company is currently building a 12-room guest house in Isdhoo. No guesthouse has been operated in Isdhoo thus far.
