Maldives adds over 1,200 guest house beds in 2024

More than 1,200 guesthouse beds have been added to the tourism sector so far this year.

According to the Tourism Ministry, although K. Maafushi continues to lead in terms of guesthouse beds numbers, AA. Thoddoo is currently the fastest-growing area for guesthouse expansion.

At the end of January this year, there were 13,657 guesthouse beds, according to tourism statistics. However, the number of beds has now increased to 14,903, marking an increase of 1,246 beds.

In comparison, there were 809 guest house beds at the start of last year, and this number rose to 883 by the end of 2023.

As for resorts, there were 43,279 tourist beds in 176 resorts at the beginning of this year. However, the number of resort beds has since decreased by 174 due to temporary closure of some resorts for the off-season.

Despite this, the total number of beds available for tourists in the Maldives has increased to 62,814, according to the Tourism Ministry.
