Italian tourist passes away during Maldives' holiday

An Italian tourist has passed away at Fihaalhohi Island Resort of Male' atoll.

The police confirmed that reports of the incident were received at 9.20 am on Tuesday. However, no further details were disclosed.

There has been a recent spike in deaths of tourists visiting the Maldives, most of which are incidents related to drowning.

The Tourism Ministry has launched a campaign to re-assess all tourist accomodation facilities to ensure that the environments are safe and pose no risks to visitors.

The police have also urged to be extra-cautious when in water to avoid tragic incidents at sea.
