VP acknowledges strengthened bilateral relations between Maldives and India

The relationship between Maldives and India has significantly strengthened over the past two months, said Vice President Faisal Naseem.

He made the statement while speaking at the ceremony held at Dharubaaruge on Sunday to mark India's Republic Day.

In his speech, the Vice President noted that India is a democratic nation that displays an exemplary implementation of democratic principles via laws and regulations.

The age old friendship between the Maldive islands and neighboring India has always been strong due to the geographical location of both countries, noted the VP, adding that India is always the first to come to the archipelago's aid during tough situations.

Faisal shed light on the numerous assistance provided by the Indian government, especially in the fields of health care, education and business, noting the contribution of Indian teachers and doctors to the Maldivian economy.

The official visits to India by the Maldivian government attests to the priority given by the Maldivian government in strengthening bilateral ties with India, said Faisal.

VP Faisal further assured that Maldives will continue to work together with India with the spirit of friendship, for the mutual benefit of both countries.
