Maldives Election Commission has revealed that the commission received 403 applications to contest on the parliamentary elections slated for April.
The commission is expected to release detailed list of candidates with their associated political party in the next few weeks.
It has been reported that main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is fielding 86 candidates while the progressive coalition between Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) and Peoples National Congress (PNC) will be fielding 46 candidates. Ruling coalition partner, Jumhooree Party will bring out 42 candidates while both Adhaalath party and Maldives Democratic Aliance (MDA) will field 7 candidates each.
Many independent candidates gave also applied to contest in the election.
The deadline for application expired at 16:00 on Thursday, and the parliamentary election is scheduled for 7th of April.
