Motion against PG withdrawn again

Parliamentarian who submitted a no confidence motion against Prosecutor General Aishath Bisham has withdrawn his motion.

The motion was submitted by Thinadhoo MP Abdulla Ahmed. Last November the motion was filed at the parliament, but was later withdrawn and resubmitted after bringing some changes.

However, even by the end of the year, the motion was not scheduled to be heard on the parliament floor.

Media Director of the parliament Hassan Ziyau on Tuesday confirmed that the motion which was presented to the committee on Independent Institutions have now been withdrawn, even though he did not disclose the reason behind it.

The main reason a no confidence motion against PG Bsham was sought was because several MPs were arrested during president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom's regime and there was negligence on art of the Prosecutor General in the investigations and charges that followed. It is believed that the PG's role on the issue had constricted the rights of the people and the members.
