Indian warship in Maldives for joint operation

An Indian Navy ship has arrived in Maldives to take part in a joint operation with Maldives National Defense Force.

MNDF revealed that a surveillance operation will be conducted together with the Indian navy to monitor the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) of the Maldives from 9-12 April. A similar surveillance operation was conducted earlier.

The surveillance operations are conducted to identify any illegal actions that may be taking place within the Maldivian Economic Zones.

MNDF previously said the same safety network is utilized by both countries in case of danger within the boundaries of both countries. This is the usual practice in other countries, and both Maldives and India have same interests in maintaining the peace of the Indian Ocean. Both countries wish to address drug related offenses, illegal oil trade and other such offenses, they said.
